I Heart NYC

After living in the NYC area for 5 years, I feel like I’ve done a lot of stuff in and around NYC. As we prepare to leave in the next month I’ve been racking my brain and talking with Dave about things we should do before we move. It’s been a tough list to create! One thing we did come up with is to go to a Yankees game in their new stadium. We’ve bought tickets for a game on Monday so we are able to cross that one off our list! The only other things I can really think about are eating at some restaurants we’ve never been to, or ones that are special to us.

Any NYC thoughts send them my way... close to a month and counting!!

Milk and Honey Spa

Milk and Honey Spa is my favorite spa in Austin and every time I'm in town my mom and I treat ourselves to a treatment. I have had some great facials, body wraps, and massages! Unfortunately, the last time I was in town I was only 5 weeks pregnant so they couldn't do any body treatments. Luckily, I have passed that very difficult 1st trimester and can now have a pregnancy massage with no worries! I'm coming in town in a few weeks to look at houses and visit my hubby since he will be moving sooner than I will. I'm excited to be visiting Milk and Honey. If you're in the Austin area, I highly recommend it! They have a location downtown and one at the Galleria.

Packing Our Pod

We have decided to make this move using a POD. A POD is large moving/storage container that sits in our driveway, is packed by us, picked up by PODS, and driven down to Austin where it will go to storage.

We made this choice for a few reasons:
-We are able to pack at our own pace. Since Dave is moving down a few weeks before I am it made sense to start the packing process as soon as possible.
-It is cheaper than traditional movers.
-Since we don't know where we will be living as soon as we get to Austin (we will be staying with my parents 1st) the POD can go directly into storage and when we find a house it can be moved directly there to be unpacked. This eliminates moving into a storage unit and back out.

I must say, I was a little skeptical about making a cross-country move this way, but so far so good. They have been right on schedule and extremely helpful throughout the booking and drop-off process. It makes me feel like the move is within our control - not someone else.

One really neat thing is the way they move the POD on and off the truck - it never tips. A hydraulic system is used to move the POD off of the truck, hold it in place while the truck pulls away, and the lower the POD into place. It was quite a sight!

New Chapter

As we start a new blog, we start a new chapter in our lives.

We are moving to Austin! We have been looking to relocate for a few years now, and this seemed like the best transition time in our lives. Dave has found an exciting new job and...

We are expecting our first baby in October!

Here I am with the start of my baby bump - around 16 weeks. Even now at 18 weeks I don't look much different.
We have had 2 ultrasounds so far and everything is progressing right on track. My official due date is October 24th so we will have a new little pumpkin at Halloween this fall!
We will find out the gender on June 2nd...my guess is a girl, but who knows - at least it's a 50/50 shot!

This is a lot of change at one time, but we couldn't be more excited about the future. We've enjoyed our time up here in the NYC area, but it's time to settle down and start a family. I just never thought it would all happen in 6 months time!
